The Not So Healthy But Loving Life Appetizer

My husband and I are both into staying fit and eating right. However, we both also embrace the idea of not sacrificing the good things in life, i.e., food, wine, sweets. We love to eat. Granted, most of the time we eat fairly healthy, we have our moments of splurging. Our goal is all things in moderation. Part of the benefit of living a fit life is also being able to enjoy some not so "fit" things and not worry as much. A dear friend of mine (shout out to SKM) recently posted a picture on Facebook of delicious desserts and said "I run so I can eat." Amen to that, sister!

I thought I would share one of our recipes we used for our "No Football Super Bowl Party" last night. Our turn out was great...the three of us! We are not footballs fans. Nor are we sports fans. We'd both  rather play football than have to actually watch it. But we wanted to make party food. So this was as good of an excuse as any. Here is one of our tantalizing treats (that will definitely need a few sets of those push-ups to burn off).

Bacon Wrapped Cheese Stuffed Dates
Slice open a whole pitted date. Stuff with cheese cube of your choice (we went with sharp cheddar, but gruyere or perhaps a goat cheese would be nice, too). Wrap in a piece of bacon and hold together with a toothpick. After you've put together as many as you'd like broil for 15 minutes, flipping once halfway through.

These babies are the most sinful, rich mixture of decadent sweet, chewy, salty goodness. We munched on a few of these with a wonderful Pinot Noir (Mark West, thanks Mollo family!).

Enjoy!  ~ Anna Marie
