Music To Get You Moving

Sometimes it's hard to figure out what music is going to motivate your for your entire workout - whatever that looks like. Whether you are running, ellipticaling (?), cycling, walking, lifting weights, sprinting, stair stepping, or mowing the yard (one time for my sister, who loves to get her mow on).

That's where I come in...while I plan to post some great tasting snack/meal idea every Thursday, Friday is my day to rock out. My younger sister Sarah just wrote a post on her blog about music, and I do believe music has to power to move your soul, and likewise your body. I. love. music.

So today, I am providing you with a playlist to groove to along with some suggestions on how to use it to motivate your moves. I've also included some links to the songs, so you can check them out (in case you've never heard them). This total playlist is 47 minutes (perfect for a private spin session).

Fit Life Playlist (3 Feb 2011): Songs to Speed You Up
Song (Artist*)

Close To You - (Stevie Ray Vaughan) (warm-up song)
Run (I'm a Natural Disaster) - (Gnarls Barkley)
Major Tom - (Shiny Toy Guns)
Crabbuckit - (K-OS)
Ya Mama  - (Fatboy Slim)
Candyman - (Christina Aguilera) (love this video and song...as does my two year old!!!)
The Time (Dirty Bit) - (The Black Eyed Peas)
Round & Round - (Bodyrockers)
Gone Daddy Gone - (Gnarls Barkley)
I Like the Way - (Bodyrockers)
Music Is Pumping (Original Mix) - (Porn Kings)

*Please note I did not come up with their names...ahem Porn Kings...

So, if you have these songs or want to download from itunes or where ever you get your music this is my suggestion. Use this playlist the next time you do your "thang" and whenever you hear the music pick up or hit a chorus of the song, increase your speed temporarily. This is an easy way to give your cardio/workout a boost. For the slower songs, crank of that hill/resistance and try to work a little harder. Internal training (short bursts of speed/increased work effort) are an excellent way to improve the effect of cardio training. Using music as your guide is a way to keep it fun and not so serious.

Keep on moving my friends.

Anna Marie.
