As much as I love to write, I couldn't have done this better myself. Ladies...lifting weights does not equal "weight-lifter" body. Our bodies do not have the right balance of hormones to develop extremely large muscles.
Want to "get it right, get it tight" for bikini season? How about year round? (I actually saw a car next to me yesterday that had a sign for "Bodylicious Personal Training...Get It Right, Get It Right, Get it Tight")
This is the way to go. I love lifting weights prior to a cardio workout (because I am not tired from running/spinning/rowing) and I can maintain a better form. I have started to do my core workout first for the very same reason (nod to Lou Shuler's book I am reading/reviewing). I lift weight 5 days a week and if given the choice between cardio and lifting...I always choose lifting. Check out this great post to Lose Your Fear of Lifting.
